2020 was certainly improved when I booked a recurring role in a new TV series shooting in Europe at the beginning of 2021 and, at the beginning of December, I was back working on the video game that I’d been working on at the end of 2019, so that was a boost too!

For the holidays, I made it back to the UK after United Airlines altered my direct flight from Los Angeles to London by sending me via Chicago.  Also, they changed the return leg of my flight and expected me to fly, London to Chicago, Chicago to San Francisco, San Francisco to LA! In light of not wanting to take the extra risk of contracting COVID-19 on 3 flights rather than 1, I’ve decided not to return to LA using United.

Christmas was low key when London and Surrey both ended up in Tier 4 with severe restrictions on movement and mixing so instead of 7 people on Christmas day, we only had 3. We looked at the positives in that all of the family were healthy at least.

The strain of COVID-19 that the UK reported as being a new variant and more easily transmitted, led to flights from the UK being cancelled by many European countries. I wasn’t sure if the TV production was going to postpone but they stuck to their guns and chartered a plane for the UK cast and crew to fly to the location and we’ve all been quarantining for 14 days before we’re allowed out to shoot. Again, I can only look at the positives and see that I am fortunate to be working at all in the current climate.

We all wanted to see the back of 2020, only to start 2021 in another lockdown with COVID-19 cases rising again in so many countries around the world. 2021 couldn’t be worse than 2020, could it? Hopefully not as now there are several vaccines that have been approved and the UK is rolling them out as fast as the supplies will allow to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible. Then it’s a waiting game to see how long it will take before we might be able to return to our normal lives.

My recommendation this month is for anyone requiring some sort of answer or explanation as to how the USA has become so divided – watch the documentary, The Social Dilemma, on Netflix.  When each individual receives personally tailored news and “facts”, people find themselves living in alternate realities.
