To me, the absolute joy of cinema is when it encompasses visual spectacle with brilliant storytelling.

RRR is an epic film that somehow combines virtually all the themes found in movies in just the one film: overcoming the monster, the quest, buddy love, voyage and return, comedy, tragedy, Romeo & Juliet, triumph over adversity. It’s like James Bond meets Gandhi, meets Saving Private Ryan meets In The Heights and that still doesn’t cover everything!

I’ve seen the film on the big screen and watched it again on Netflix. Try to see it on the big screen but if not, you can still get most of the impact on Netflix. I prefer to watch foreign language films with subtitles rather than the dubbed audio, but for this film, the dubbed audio is probably a better option as for some reason the English subtitles appear underneath all the English dialogue as well as the Telugu which is a bit distracting. I’ve seen two films like this recently and I’m not sure why this is a new thing. The subtitles could be doubling up as subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing, I suppose but SDH usually includes captions too.  It’s an odd one.

Either way, this is the best film I have seen in years so please watch and share the joy! It’s a rollercoaster ride that you’ll never forget.
